"Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again." - Capt. James Cook

Welcome to Gibsons Sailing School! Come sail with us in the protected waters of Howe Sound and the Gulf Islands. Choose a course from either CYA or a relaxing mileage builder. On water training combined with classroom navigation and radio courses follow proven teaching formats. Prepare yourself for the ocean environment, whether it be bareboat charter around the world or a personal adventure in our own Pacific Northwest.

Yes, we are located in beautiful Gibsons,a 40 min ferry ride from West Van. Why is this better than a downtown Vancouver departure? Gibsons has a thermal breeze every day like clockwork. This means we train every day. We are within protected Howe Sound so no rough weather no matter how hard its blowing in Georgia Straight. This protected environment is ideal for Basic training and allows full training days with little time lost to travel. The Intermediate trips go to the Gulf Islands.

PLANNING ON CHARTERING IN THE MED?

You need the International Certificate of Competency(ICC). To operate a boat in Europe you now need the ICC.Gibsons/Landsend Sailing in partnership with International Yacht Training(IYT), the largest certifying body in the world, can help you get this certification.
Police and harbour authorities in Europe are busy fineing boaters to complement their shrinking budgets. Charter companies in some areas will not accept reservations without the ICC.

The ICC is a combination on-water practical and theory exam that goes beyond our operaters card and is only valid 5 years. If your an experienced boater, onboard practical evaluations can be arranged on request. For new boaters, training takes place on board in a cruise and learn format, Boaters that already have an IYT certification automatically qualify for the ICC which allows the operation of craft up to 24 meters in length.
